Most (or all) Engelhard 10-ounce silver bars have serial numbers.
We are guessing that the 6-digit version with no prefix came first, and went from 000001 through around 350000 (with several minor variations). Starting with poured, then stamped. Some of these may have been produced at the same time others were.
We are guessing that the P series came out next, starting with the original '99 9' design (from P000001 through about P080000). Engelhard uses 'P' to signify poured bars.
We guess that the standard P-series design came out next, from around P080000 through around P400000.
We guess that next came the stamped bars, which started with P000001 or P100001, and then re-started with C000001 or C100001, going through around C300000.
Then, the Large 'E' Logo C-Series came out, starting at around C300000, going through around C700000.
Then, there was a design change to use the Eagle/Flag logo, which started around C700000 and hit C999999, and then started over with C000001 (or C100001).
We estimate a total mintage of roughly 1.5 to 1.7 million 10-ounce bars by Engelhard (about 900,000 wide, and about 600,000 to 800,000 tall), or about 15-17 million ounces worth. Note that many may have been melted.
NOTE: There may be duplicate serial numbers (but not of the same design), due to the Eagle/Flag logo 'rolling over'.
