Cardpool.com was founded in 2009, and has close to 20,000 customer reviews. One co-founder was Anson Tsai. It was acquired by Blackhawk Network in 2011. In appears that around late 2017, Blackhawk announced a plan to sell Cardpool. It was purchased by David S. Jones on January 14, 2019; he is the owner and CEO.

David S. Jones is the Chairman and CEO of now-defunct CardLabs/giftcardlab.com, according to the BBB, and was since at least 2010 (see an article he wrote). He also owned PayJr, a company that made prepaid debit cards for kids. .

I have started this page, after discovering that cardpool.com is operating in what appears to be a fraudulent matter, and appears unable to pay people who are selling gift cards. In general, a company that cannot pay debts when they become due is considered bankrupt.

What I have seen is that:

  • They claim to have an A+ rating with the BBB, but in fact have an 'F' rating
  • They claim to be a member of the TRUSTe Certification Program, but are not.
  • The last 20 reviews at TrustPilot are all 1 star reviews, except for one 2-star review.
  • The BBB lists over 800 complaints in the past year, versus an average of 175 per year for the two previous years.
  • The last 20 reviews at the BBB are 1-star, except for one 5-star review (the oldest review).
Although this company has nothing to do with bullion, I felt it was important to alert people to what is happening with it.
