Sierra Mint, LLC was started by Paul Wagner, who was the CIO of Northwest Territorial Mint (NWTM) starting in December, 2012. He was promoted to President of NWTM around April, 2016, shortly after the company filed for bankruptcy.

Sierra Mint Facts

Paul Wagner was the CIO of NWTM in April, 2016 when the bankruptcy was filed. Calvert promoted him to President around May, 2016. Northrup (the attorney for the creditors' committee) said that in 2016, Calvert learned of Wagner's plans to take over the China business, and was concerned that Wagner might compete with NWTM. NWTM shut down at the end of December, 2017. Wagner started Sierra Mint in January, 2018, and hired several NWTM employees the next month.

Sierra Mint appears to have taken over the NWTM Amazon seller account, which now shows Sierra Mint's phone number, and shows recent sales.

Aside from the NWTM Amazon seller account, Sierra Mint also has their own Amazon seller account, selling (as I write this) 17 products that Amazon shows to be NWTM products.

NWTM has a registered copyright for its website, and all designs of NWTM medals should automatically be copyrighted by NWTM. Any images of NWTM products taken by NWTM should be NWTM property. Calvert has discussed filing a motion with the court to have an unnamed NWTM employee (now known to be Wagner) help liquidate NWTM store inventory, but according to Calvert at the December 7, 2018 hearing, no agreement had been reached, and nothing finalized. No motion has been filed as of January 29, 2019.

As of January 29, 2019, no explanation has been given in court documents or at a court hearing as to how Sierra Mint can be using NWTM images, trademark, Amazon account, etc. without permission. Wagner has stated that Sierra Mint pays for new dies, and Gearin has stated that Sierra Mint's Amazon store product comes from Medalcraft. But the question still remains as to how Sierra Mint and/or Medalcraft is able to use those NWTM assets.
